Proposed Citizenship changes includes revoking Citizenship for Treason

Recently proposed Citizenship Act changes  (Bill C-24)  are designed to strengthen the process of applying for Canadian citizenship – including giving the Immigration Minister the authority to revoke Citizenship in extreme but carefully delineated circumstances.

In particular anyone who takes up arms against Canada – described as:

“anyone convicted of terrorism, high treason, treason, or spying offences, depending on the sentence received.”

Also:

“Complex cases such as “war crimes, crimes against humanity, security, and other human or international rights violations” would be decided by the Federal Court.”

This is very encouraging news.
